Twilah Interior Upgrades

Since we got Twilah and began enjoying her charms, we also found some places that could use some improvement. One of the things that had always bugged us were the huge valances that were installed over ALL of the windows in the camper, as well as the blinds that came installed with the camper. We like to sleep in darkness, and the blinds just didn't keep things as dark as we hoped, and the valances above the windows actually made the space seem smaller, and even impeded flow in the bedroom because they were about 3 inches out from the wall and at a perfectly awkward spot that even prevented the closet from fully opening. So, we fixed it!

Rose discovered a few hacks to keep things close to the wall, but to be able to hang black out curtains. Cafe curtain rods come in a number of lengths, and generally don't extend from the wall more than an inch or so, and the same for kitchen utensil racks. So, those are what we used for curtain rods. We didn't have to alter anything, just install.

The curtains were also purchased, as is. They are black out cafe curtains, and we are delighted by how well they block the light. We also have appreciated how much easier it is to let light in, if we want to than the previous blinds.

Next up the were the closets next to the bed. This was probably the least expensive upgrade we've done yet, less than $10 a closet. Since the mirrors are on the front, it certainly limited the options on what can be done on the inside of the cabinet. We cut up a few over the door shoe hangers that were purchased at Five Below, and bought some thumb tacks at Lowe's and -BOOM- instant closet makeover.

Since we weren't actually using the over the door hangers with the organizers, and we have sliding doors that separate our bedroom from the rest of the camper, we decided to utilize the hooks on there. The doors can still slide without bothering the hooks, and it provides another place to hang frequently used items like hoodies, scarves, or hats.

Lastly, we used the bottom half of the organizers that we cut up and attached them next to the door. Maybe for shoe storage, certainly bug spray (as that's a frequent need when camping) and just little things that tend to roll around unless they have a specific place.

You can also see the rug that we have by the door. It's a simple cotton rug that we actually had purchased for our previous camping rig which was a Chevy conversion van. When we got Twilah, and were figuring out what of our previous camping items would work with this new rig, we were delighted to discover that this rug was a perfect fit for the entry way - a nice way to bridge the past with the present. The other terrific thing about a cotton rug is that when it gets really dirty (and rainy days will certainly get you there faster) it's easy to just toss in the washing machine.
